Great all-around bike

By Mike Silverstein(Owner), Sep. 15, 2008

I came to my DL650 from a KLR650 a few months ago. Even though the engine sizes are the same the DL650 has much more power and is much smoother.

The bike feels very planted on highways, back roads and dirt/gravel roads. It seems happiest at around 70-75mph regardless of where it is, although it h... as no trouble breaking 100mph.

The only negative is that the seat gets very uncomfortable after about 45 minutes and I could use a bit more leg room. I have long legs (34'' inseam) and wish I'd had the option of buying mine with the higher DL1000 seat. I don't know why Suzuki assumed that buyers of the 650 would have shorter legs than those who bought the 1000. Anyway I'm planning to get an aftermarket seat and then this problem will be gone.

The windshield gives good protection and I've tilted it back to minimize buffeting, which is still present but muted. Maybe I'll try a laminar lip.

I only have 3000 miles on it so far and it hasn't had any problems, not that I'd expect any. My KLR650 has 20,000 miles and that hasn't had any problems either. I'm looking forward to getting a new seat and putting some serious miles on this wonderful machine.

Overall I'm very happy with this bike and would recommend it, although I took points off for comfort because of the seat.

2007 Vstrom

By Jerry Outlaw(Owner), Feb. 21, 2009

I got away from riding 20 some odd years ago, on a fluke I found myself looking at motorcycles one day, test drove the Vstrom fell in love with it. The vstrom had everything I like in a motorcycle. Comfortable, great gas milage, and can go down the dirt roads, and cruise down the highway with ease. ... Best all arounder for the buck, reasonably priced. Read Full Review
